The petite but durable Bonnie McCarroll is often remembered only for her death at the Pendleton Rodeo in 1929 and the ancillary effect it had on diminishing the role of women in professional rodeo. Bonnie won dozens of bronc riding championships, including major events at the Cheyenne Frontier Days, Madison Square Garden and Chicago.
She is usually portrayed by the iconic image of her being somersaulted from the back of a horse named Silver at Pendleton in 1915 often erroneously identified as her fatal fall.
Here is a very rare, clear shot of Mrs. McCarroll with her feet on the ground.
