One of the more intriguing and mysterious images we’ve come across is this early 20th century photograph of a young woman and her string of horses. She may have been a horse trader, a miner (we’re almost certain the image comes from the Pacific Northwest) or an entrepreneur supplying mining or logging camps. She is armed, and the manner in which she wears her pistol suggests to us it was not mere decoration.
