The wild bedlam and potential perils of a nighttime stampede of longhorns are captured here – in one of a series of four engravings created in the 1870’s by an artist accompanying a reporter for Harper’s on a tour of Texas. We’ve enhanced them only very slightly and left the original titles in the lower margin, just as we found them. The detail is amazing and offers a realistic view of life in the state and in the West of the time.
